Market worth billion awaits Indian food sector
Ahead of World Food India event, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries(MoFPI), Government of India, today organized the World Food India Roadshow in Mumbai. Union Minister Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal
along with Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra; Shri Jitendra Kumar, Director, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India and Shri Pandurang Fundkar, Minister for Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra addressed the gathering of industrialists and business persons from the state, seeking their active participation in World Food India. The three day mega event ‘World Food India’ to be held in New Delhi from 3 – 5 November 2017.
World Food India 2017 is the platform for showcasing the food processing strength of India and an opportunity to connect with international and Indian
key players in food processing and allied sectors. Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is the National Event Partner.
Addressing the industry leaders at the roadshow,
Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, said “Our farmers are suffering from huge food wastages, leading to huge losses. MoFPI is working towards making a sustainable food processing sector focussed towards reducing this massive wastage of food and doubling the income of farmers. Our respectable Prime Minister and MoFPI has taken many major steps to ensure in future, it can have a positive impact on the lives of farmers and provide safe hygienic food for all citizens of the country. MoFPI has worked very hard since last three years to provide effective ground level infrastructure to fill major gaps between the operational linkages of farmers, retailers and processors. We want World Food India (WFI) event to act as a global platform not only for foreign investors, but also act as a medium for our Indian investors and small scale business to reach global markets and receive all the benefits.
There are many foreign companies wanting to invest in food processing sector in India and looking forward for the joint ventures with Indian companies, and we invite all of you to take benefit of this opportunity. Maharashtra has been a bulk receiver of benefits of MoFPI schemes and has been a key contributor to the food processing sector. We look forward to work with the Government of Maharashtra to make the World Food India Event a great success.”
Speaking at the roadshow and highlighting the growth prospects in Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, mentioned that he is really happy that MoFPI organized a roadshow for food processing sector in Maharashtra. He stated that the Government of Maharashtra is looking forward to work with MoFPI to
participate in World Food India in a major way. He further stated that their Government will work with MoFPI towards enhancing sustainability in agriculture and food processing, will create a value chain for farmers, will provide backward and forward linkages
among all stakeholders, which will help reduce wastages and farmers will receive the real benefit of their farm produce. He said that the Government of Maharashtra is working very proactively with MoFPI and will continue to do so to make the food processing sector a robust industry and will provide their utmost support to make World Food India a great success.”
Furthermore, Hon’ble Minister briefed the audience about the Government schemes related to the food processing industry and highlighted the benefits
of the Kisan Sampada Scheme of the Central Government for Farmers, FPOs, Corporates etc.
Kisan Sampada Scheme will benefit 20 lakh farmers and generate 5,30,500 direct/ indirect employment in the country by the year 2019-20.
Ms. Shobana Kamineni, President, CII said, “ CII has been working very closely with the
Ministry of Food Processing and also with the Maharashtra State Government. We are privileged to partner with MoFPI as the national event partner for World Food India 2017, an event that promises to transform the food economy of the country.”
Mr. Jitender Kumar, Director, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India
gave a presentation on Kisan Sampada Scheme and spoke of its benefits and positive impact on the food processing sector value chain.
World Food India has received tremendous response across the globe and will see participation from over 20 countries. All leading giants from India and abroad in food processing, food technology, technology & equipment players, cold chains, ingredients, food retailers will be present at World Food India. World Food India will provide a platform to showcase offerings and services along the food value chain which includes production, processing, packaging, technology, equipment, storage, logistics or retail.
Food processing industry representatives present at the Roadshow included representatives from all segments, including food processing, cold chain,
agro products, beverages, fisheries, dairy, organic & health food, Farmer Producer Organisations, Progressive farmers, and food & industry associations.

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries is organising, in collaboration with the Confederation Indian Industry (CII), World Food India in New Delhi from 3rd till 5th November, 2017. World Food India will be the largest gathering of investors, manufacturers, producers, food processors, policy makers, and organizations from the global food ecosystem.
