Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ has been launched in India. Samsung Galaxy S8 is priced at Rs 57,900 while the Galaxy S8+ costs Rs 64,900.
The India price tags evidently bear a significant premium over the US pricing. In the US, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is priced as low as $720 (roughly Rs. 46,700) and the Galaxy S8+ at $840 (roughly Rs. 54,500).
Reliance Jio is offering ‘Double Data Offer’ to Samsung galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ users with 28GB data per month at a monthly recharge of Rs 309.
Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+ will be Flipkart exclusive in India for online sales, and pre-orders of the phone will take place from 3 PM on the e-commerce site. The smartphones start shipping from May 5.
The company formally announced the Galaxy S8 in New York last month, alongside the Galaxy S8+. The device comes in two models with different screen sizes – the 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 and 6.2-inch Galaxy S8+. Unlike the S7 lineup, there’s no flat screen model now, instead both phones have the dual curved edge display. The screen resolution is 2960×1440 on AMOLED display.
In terms of specifications, the smaller 5.8-inch Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a QuadHD Infinity display with 570 pixels per inch (ppi) along with 4GB RAM. The S8 will have an internal memory of 64GB with microSD support upto 256GB. The phone, which will draw power from a 3,000 mAh battery, will run on Android Nougat. In terms of optics, the S8 will sport a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 8-megapixel front shooter.
The larger 6.2-inch S8+ will come with an OLED display with 529 ppi support. The S8+ will come with a higher battery capacity of 3,500 mAh due to the bigger display. Other features of the S8+ are same as the S8.
Samsung likes to call them as “Infinity” display due to the increased screen size. The unusual shape of the Galaxy S8’s display is due to its ultra-wide display, which has an aspect ratio of 18:5:9 instead of 16:9. There’s no physical home button, moving to a pressure sensitive display arrangement for the home button, with customisable navigation controls on the screen.
Meanwhile, the fingerprint scanner has been moved to the rear alongside the camera. Samsung Galaxy S8 is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance; like the previous generation phone these also support wireless charging. There’s even a 3.5mm headphone jack, despite the thin frame.
Samsung is also expected to launch the DeX dock station that allows the S8 and the S8+ to be turned into a PC using a mouse, keyboard and screen.
