Oceedee Helps You Keep Your Gorgeous Shoes Gorgeous this Monsoon!

Oceedee Helps You Keep Your Gorgeous Shoes Gorgeous this Monsoon!

~ Simple Hacks to take care of leather shoes in the rains ~

Rains bring joy and well dampness too, which is bad news for your awesome leather shoes. Maintaining leather in this wet season may give you a bad headache! But fret not and let Neha Kumthekar, Managing Director, Oceedee, guide you with some simple hacks to make your life easier and the life of your leather shoes longer.

Her simple DIY tips help you in letting your leather shoes shine bright in the gloomy, wet rainy season as she rightly said, “Caring for your leather can seem quite a task especially during monsoons. There is definitely a little effort required to keep your favorite pair of shoes in a great condition, but it is totally worth it since you can then save them for a lifetime. There are few basic rules that simply cannot be violated when it comes to maintaining leather in the rainy season.”

These simple DIY tricks will further add a spring in your step!

Rule #1: Get natural as you air-dry your shoes

Don’t ever forget to let your shoes dry naturally! Of course that is whenever they get wet, even a teensy bit wet. This is the key to basic hygiene and to make your shoes last for long. Also, never make the mistake of drying them with a hair dryer or using extreme heat on your delicate leather because it may crack up. Air-dry your shoes naturally under a fan at normal room temperature for the best result.

Rule #2: Store them right!

Those lovely pair of rather expensive leather shoes that cannot come out in monsoons, need care too. They should be kept comfy-cozy to avoid moisture from sinking in and causing heavy damage. If you are not using some shoes regularly, be sure to stuff them with newspaper and put them in a heavy cloth bag. Be super careful as your wooden cupboards might also absorb moisture in this wet season. To further avoid moisture retention by leather shoes, keep sachets of silica gel or place a bowl of soda bicarbonate in your wooden cabinets.

Rule #3: Fight the mould!

God forbid! But if at all your shoes do grow fungus on them, you don’t need to throw them off right away. It’s difficult to treat them but definitely not impossible! The best chance of recovering them is by scrubbing them gently with an old toothbrush. However, you have to ensure that nothing is left behind, not even in the smallest crevices of the shoe, since it will all grow back. So clean them properly and air-dry them naturally to avoid further attacks of the mould.

Rule #4:  Polish them to a shine

Polishing your shoes not only maintains the quality but also protects it from the moisture. Additionally, your shoes shine high and dazzle brightly that add on to your overall look. You may use a leather conditioner or an expensive leather polish to replenish the oil in your leather shoes. Ideally, one should take a small amount of the conditioner on a soft cotton cloth and gently rub it onto the shoes in circular motions.

Rule #5: No Damp! No Mud!

Monsoon is the time when you really need to take care of your shoes and keep them away any form of damp mud. Do not ever let mud stay onto your footwear after a walk in the rain. The clumps of hardened mud that form on the shoes after drying can prove to be taxing for your shoes. Ensure that you take a brush and shed off any mud before it dries off.

Follow these simple hacks and let the rains not dampen your spirit. Flaunt those leather shoes without a worry!

From barley to wheat to corn, rice and rye, you can taste it all while feeding on some knowledge about the beers.

Talking about the master brewer, Ishan Grover is the man who realised his passion for beer and opted for the world’s coolest art of making spirit. With his masters in Food and Beverage Science, which broadened his horizon and with his expertise in Brewing and Distilling from International Centre of Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University, Scotland, his only objective is to create awareness about the art of brewing and take the craft brewing industry to the next level. Currently, he manages a vast portfolio of over clients, including the Manhattan Group that operates 6 brewpubs in Gurgaon. According to Ishan, India is a virgin market where people are less aware of quality beer and the biggest challenge is to educate the consumer about quality beers.

Now, talking about the gems or the watering holes that help us enjoy the best beers, we have

BRONX – Settled in the middle of the popular Sector 29 market, built over 4 levels the pub has a cellar like feel to its basement and a very cozy indoor with open verandah seating on the first floor. The top level is the terrace which, being a corner, has a very open feel with various seating options right from cabana couches to high tables. The street art at the terrace is already a talk of the town and adds to the open feel. At Bronx the alcohol menu is very elaborate with its star the brewed beer. It comes in 4 types, Wheat, Lager Dark & Ale. The food menu is very exciting with a whole lot of options of lip smacking starters and main course covering Indian, Chinese, Tex Mex, European, Italian, Mediterranean and American Cuisine.

LAGOM – An ideal place to unwind and unravel, LAGOM gets its inspiration from a Swedish word, which means just the right amount of everything. So if we talk about the restaurant, it displays the perfect balance of delightful food, brewed beer and cocktails churned out from their bar.
Lagom exudes warm & earthy colors, lively sounds and a very distinct ambience, which adds to the raw yet modern feel of the restaurant concept.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF DESIGN

 Welcome to Imagination

“A teacher who is not dogmatic is simply a teacher who is not teaching” – Gilbert K. Chesterton

pixlr_20160605141021173.jpg

And there it is- the underlying mantra that defines the system of education at International School Of Design. They leverage the greatest value to established facts, the emergent ideas and progressive thinking that is the hallmark of being patrons as Fashion Designing Institute. They inspire and educate their students to be the source of this change, to be the next big name. International School Of Design-INSD made a promising beginning under the aegis of prominent educationists and industry leaders and got its share of accolade in 2015 when INSD was awarded as “The best design institutes in North India. The INSD Corporate branch located in Gujranwala town part 2, near north campus Delhi University has a Ultra-modern infrastructure, INSD boasts of 30+ training and placement partners, industry centric learning, international connect and out of the box training methods.

Its Founder and CEO Mr. Sunjey Aggarwal believes in a clear approach of contributing back to the national and international design scenario, which will transpire into best opportunities for the young INSD brigade to participate in the real world of interior, Fashion, Jewellery, Textile, Graphic and Animation design. INSD has collaborated with many prominent causes and events including India Runway Week as their educational partners in September 2016 a fully integrated fashion show called Think Design at Thyagraj stadium in April 2016 and setting new milestones for the young talents.

pixlr_20160605141021173.jpg

INSD encourages its students, faculty members and staff to embrace a culture of lifelong creativity and innovative learning, develop critical and solution based thought process, acquire progressive career skills, and become responsive to the dynamics and the changing realities of the industry and the global community.

Consistent with the mission, their vision is to create world-class institutes that achieve outstanding student learning outcomes by invigorating creative excellence in the field of fashion and design education. They differentiate their institutes by offering high-quality academic programs through close student-mentor engagement, research and creative programs, project based learning, state of the art learning and delivery facilities, and internationalization of the curriculum.

I recently had the opportunity to visit INSD with my younger sister, who has chosen to make a career out of Fashion Designing. Needless to say, a good degree firmly establishes your feet on the path to success and hence our stop at INSD. My first impression of the beautifully designed an imposing building was one of awe; but I was skeptical enough to wonder if the content matched the facade. Here too, I was not disappointed, for I learnt that the faculty and supporters of the institute comprised of some of the most venerable names from the fashion industry. The professors were a surprise with just how affable and approachable they were and the students quite voluble about how much they enjoyed what they were being taught. The institute believes in not just imparting techniques and textbook knowledge but also offers opportunities to develop practical skills, making sure their graduates are well-rounded in their chosen field. They stress on SELF INITIATED LEARNING, which ensures students open their minds to alternatives, explore, create and analyze all processes. A complete package of skill, technique, professionalism, creativity and innovation. That’s what I think INSD is.
